Has anyone any ideas how much it would cost me to have a master made and then some figures cast from it?
I would be looking for a 28mm Schaumberg-Lippe Carbinier (front rank type) mounted figure SYW period ( I would use FR Horses)
advice on this would be great.
Thanks

Hello Tym,
It would very much depend on who you got to sculpt the original figure for you as to how much it would cost. Sculptors can charge anywhere from between £40.00 up to £200 for a 28mm figure. Within that you would have quite a difference in quality and turn round time. Pricing can depend on whether the sculptor is full time freelance or part time, some sculptors seem to charge less for their talents as there livelihood does not depend on their income from sculpting.
As for production costs, it's around £30 - £40 for a master mould plus another £30 - £40 for a production mould. Then you have your casting costs and metal to pay for.
If you are looking to cast a few models from the master and are not looking to sell them then you could make a mould yourself. It's not to difficult and can produce surprising results. I have made and cast a few figures myself and was pleased witht the results. You can get rubber for making moulds from

or

If you have any other questions then just ask.
Cheers,
Ian.

This is the guy Im looking for
thanks for info on this
Its made me think about this and possible ways forward. I think it would have to be one figure with loose head (Redoubt style) with open hands so it would easy make up a unit a unit 24 figures

If you're just wanting a unit for yourself it would probably be best to go down the route of moulding and casting it yourself. If you are moderately handy modelling wise it shouldn't cause you to many problems.

Isnt this unit in the Eureka Miniatures 100 club waiting for enough people to sign up and make its production viable?
In my SYW days I wanted these figs too!

Yes I believe they are. I saw their Saxons SYW which are slightly smaller than the Perry figures so no use in a Front Rank / Foundry army hence the question.
see link for pictures

thanks I keep looking into it
