Hmm add a large helping of Gin and that about sums it up for me too!

Thirded.
Long day at work, nice Australian Red in hand, sit down, crack open the paints, lose interest...

Will be interested to see what you come back with |
I had a look at various ranges, got a set of rules out of storage - might and reason by Sam Mustafa - and had a look at SYW British and Hanoverian using the 'army builder' in the back of the rule book.
Using 28mm figures, and totally ignoring the costs of figures and postage, I prefered the Front Rank choices available.
Might and Reason is a set of C18th rules using 2x 50mmx50mm bases as a brigade basically, meaning 12 figures as a brigade. My idea being to go down the nicely painted wargames army front, over the lots and lots of figures to put on as realistic display as possible avenue. This would mean I would possibly get the units completed, could solo game with them on my 4'x4' table and it wouldn't break the bank. + I could probably get everything I wanted for the British etc under the 6 month guidelines. ++ I am a wargamer first and a painter second.
Then I had the idea of using the SpencerSmith old school figures instead, two forces, which the £200 should purchase, painted old school, in generic C18th British and French colours, to allow myself to solo game with them.
Yes, Battlegames magazine has helped to guide my thoughts.
- Obviously my take on the 'tale of four gamers...' idea regarding sharing on a forum, was and is, basically, I do the figures for my own benefit but would post pictures on the net to show anybody who is interested. Ideally this would be done on a blog created by myself so as to not bog down Steve's site. However, I have no intention of ever trying to manage a blog, because I can't partcularly stand technology, and it would be a waste of time 'cos I'd never get around to updating. (I think I forget about all the above in my earlier posts )
To sum up, I'd be looking at using this as an excuse to start a new period for me to solo game with. I wouldn't be interested in working as a group to reach a final goal of a big game at the end. I'd like to try and get the army in a box, or in my hopes, two armies in a box + dice and rules, for £200 done over 6 months.

I'd be interested in reading your progress
Perhaps have a weekly update on a Thursday as not a lot happens on a Thursday.

At £4.80 a foot brigade, cavalry at £4.60, and using the basic foundry paint style, 3 layers , I might be able to complete the project.
Oh, and would probably go for the SSM War of the Austrian Succesion figures because I like the idea of doing the '45. (Culloden )
It'll be somewhere in the 1745-55 era, and not too fussed about historical accuracy concerning uniforms or historical deployment. It's only me playing with them after all
