I own and use an Optivisor (3x magnification) for really close-up work on faces, flags, etc. However for 'normal' work I prefer the Eschenbach "clip-on", which is light in weight, and attaches to the spectacles which I already wear: http://www.eschenbach.com/preview.php?pid=215 .
Depending on your location, the cost of the clip-on and one lens may be about £30.00 or so.
