Has anyone got this product? Ref 13165.

If so, is it any good?

Have considered getting one of these type of things myself, so I'd be interested in the answer as well.

I use an Optivisor which costs between £30-50.

I think Front Rank sell them though I bought mine through work where they are a requirement for some of the guys doing bench work with printed circuit boards.

I don't know about the product you link to but as they are a third or less of the price of an Optivisor the old adage about getting what you pay for springs to mind. Sorry.

If its purely a magnifying glass then don't bother, you don't get the depth of field and don't know when you are about to touch the figure with your brush.

Optivisor is different, you have the depth......I think they refer to it as being 2D whereas magnifying glasses are only 1D.

I had the lamp, but for me the focal length was totally wrong and I ended up hitting my brush on the lens. I now use an optivisor with a #5 lens (I'm longsighted as hell btw).

Hi Dave,

i think you are talking about the head mounted thingy further down the page rather than the magnifying glass/light at the top? If so then i have got one of these (or one that looks very similar) that was donated by my mother in law - and its really good. The light isnt up to much but the lenses are fine and give good depth of vision. A lot cheaper than an optivisor too by the looks of it for what seems like the same essentially the same thing.

I picked up an "Optivisor" type headset for £15 about 3 years back from Squires. As far as I know they do not have an online store but you can Google them and request a catalogue.

Thanks for all the feedback guys - very useful.

I, like Chris L, am blind as a bat too, so considering the price will probably give it a try.

A good pair of glasses and excellent daylight lighting is just as good. I had the same problem but found that even the optivisor did not do the trick; mind you I paint 15's.

i've got that actual set and its fine.

visually it takes a bit of getting used to especially if wearing glasses, just a case of working out where the best focal points are really.

its ok in terms of weight but wearing it for a long time will give you an ache due to its weight (but for an hour or less at a time its fine).

I think i paid 30 quid or so for mine and it looks identical so this looks like a bargain.

the light is a gimmicky piece of crap though.

so buy it now at a third of normal price.

really cant go wrong for that price.
