Hello all. I've been lurking for a while since Mousy posted a link on the Hawgleg forum, this is my first pic post. Made a little shack for our old west town of Cut and Shoot, and I'd appreciate your comments before I start my next big project, a run-down, 2-story hotel. Hoping to glean some pointers from the pros.

I spent a little time on this project. Boards were made from small craft sticks cut/broken lenghtwise in half to represent worn/salvaged lumber. (Couldn't get any wooden coffee stirrers in this one-horse hick town ) Then I brushed each board with a wire brush to add a little texture. Boards then glued to a balsa frame, and the walls were raised as a unit. Used craft paints for painting. Washed black, when dry a dark brown paint was applied and then mostly wiped off while still wet. Next drybrushing of dark gray, light gray, and then white. The tar paper roof was made from a piece of plastic "for sale" sign with a piece of Kleenex and a couple more craft sticks. I followed the online tutorial for the roof on "OLD WEST BUILDINGS: A STEP BY STEP BUILDING GUIDE", by David Marshall of TM Terrain. The floor was sand with some washes. The mini is a WIP provided for size comparison. I'm up to 2 colors following Kevin Dallimore's "FOUNDRY MINIATURES Painting and Modelling Guide".

Way to make an entrance Joe.

Great pictures of a really well executed build project, You've obviously not
just been lurking but learning stuff !

Very good roof, the cleanex really works well and the place looks great
with all the gaps and chinks in the walls. Brilliant weathering on this
piece and a good strong structure made to look old and rickerty!

You could put a thin balsa strip frame around the door and window to finish
these off !

PS your figure looks the part too. Top job all round. And welcome to the
forum officially !!

Looks good to me, the only thing i might consider as already suggested would be the addition of door and window frames.

Wow, thanks for the kind comments everyone, and the nice welcome. I have to admit I was a little nervous posting a build here, considering the quality of the buildings and figures you all post here. However, I can also say I had noticed that you also are very kind in your critiques, so I was emboldened to post. I think that is a good suggestion to frame the windows and doors. I'll see what I can do along those lines.

Great looking shack, You've got some really nice texture on those boards, at the same time it looks really rickerty.

Agree with the suggestion on the door/window frames.

Hi, everyone. I finally got the chance to do a little work on the shack. Just followed advice for improvements and a few added bits. Added framing to the door and windows, a stove pipe and a scratch-built stove, and a little more weathering around the base of the walls. Thanks for your help, I think it's starting to come together.
